Trust & safety

Hiring a stranger for a job at your home takes trust. Every layer of Auction That Job — payments, verification, privacy and proof of work — is built so both sides can say yes with confidence.

Money is held in escrow

The client's card is authorized when they post and charged the moment the auction ends. Funds sit with Auction That Job — never with the worker — until the client confirms the job is done. Workers can bid with confidence knowing the job is already paid for.

Background-checked contractors

Workers can complete a one-time background check to earn the Verified Safe badge. Clients can require a background-checked bidder on any job with a single toggle — everyone else is blocked from bidding on it.

ID verification for everyone

Clients and contractors alike can upload a government ID for review. Verified members show a badge on their profile and bids, so you always know who you're dealing with.

Your private details stay private

A client's last name, phone number and street address are never visible to people browsing or bidding. Bidders see only a first name, last initial and the city/ZIP. Full contact details are released to the winning bidder only — and only after payment.

Photo proof before payout

Workers must upload a photo of the finished work before they can request payment, and clients confirm completion with a signed waiver. The database refuses to release funds without both.

Optional job insurance

For 10% of the winning bid, either side can add Job Insurance Protection covering accidental property damage, theft or bodily injury up to $10,000.

Secure payouts via Stripe

Contractor and partner payouts run through Stripe Connect straight to a bank account. Card numbers are stored by our payment processor — we never see or keep them.

Report a problem anywhere

Every page has a Report a problem button that goes straight to the site owner. Messages between clients and workers can be moderated, and support tickets are answered from the owner console.
